Helping good things grow 🌱

The other day, I found Simba's old harness tucked away. (If you've been following along on Instagram, you'll know Simba is our six-month-old kitten who we've managed to lead train. He’s becoming a little adventure cat!)

His first little harness is still in great condition. There's nothing wrong with it at all. It just doesn't fit him anymore.

It got me thinking about how often the same thing happens in business.

Businesses grow, change and adapt over time. Sometimes we reach a point where something no longer fits. It might be our brand identity, our website, our messaging, our services, or even the way we work. Not because we got it wrong the first time, not because what we did first was bad, but because our business has grown. And when we grow, the things around us naturally need to grow too, to fit us.

And that is something worth celebrating!

Celebrating the growth

One of my favourite parts of what I do is getting a front-row seat to that growth.

Over the past few weeks, I've watched one client open the doors to their waitlist with a refreshed brand and website, another prepare to launch into exciting locations across the UK, and another continue growing their business by introducing new services alongside the work we've been doing together.

They're all completely different businesses, but they have one thing in common.

They're all creating something good.

And the fact that I get to play even a small part in helping those ideas grow never gets old…

Growth doesn’t always mean getting bigger…

One thing I've learned is that growth doesn't always look the way we expect it to. We're often surrounded by the world telling us that success means more followers, more clients, more revenue or bigger milestones. It feels like it’s always a numbers game… But whilst those things can absolutely be worth celebrating, they're not the only signs that a business is growing.

  • Sometimes growth looks like finally launching the thing you've been sitting on for months.

  • Sometimes it's finding the confidence to raise your prices.

  • Sometimes it's attracting clients who genuinely light you up.

  • Sometimes it's creating a business that gives you more time with your family, protects your wellbeing, or simply feels more like you.

What does growth look like to you?

I was chatting with a friend recently who was reflecting on how far his freelance career has come. He realised that he now earns more in a single day doing work he genuinely loves than he earned in an entire month at one of his first part-time jobs as a teenager.

It’s not really about the money so much as it is about perspective. The work he’s doing now feels more meaningful, and on reflection he’s seen and appreciated the growth that has allowed him to make enough money, doing something he loves and in a way that suits him! Something younger him would be so proud of.

Sometimes we can be so busy looking towards the next goal that we forget to look back and see just how much we've grown.

I’d love you to take this moment to ask yourself, what does growth look like for you? And what would younger you be excited about for you in this moment?

My reminder to you…

It can be so easy to compare yourself to everyone else and think “but my business isn’t growing as fast as theirs”… “I’m not making the money I want to be”…”I don’t have as many followers as them”… But remember this:

1) You are building YOUR business

You are building your business (no one else’s) to work for and with you. Your goals and my goals will be totally different, and that’s ok. Maybe your goal is to free up time to spend with your family; if you’ve achieved that in the last month, that is growth. Maybe your goal is to only say YES to projects and clients that bring you joy. If you’ve managed to say no to something you didn’t want to do this year, that is growth. You are building your business for you, celebrate the growth points that matter to you. No one else’s matters.

2) Outgrowing something doesn’t mean it was wrong before

If something in your business no longer feels like it fits, don't be so quick to assume it's because you've failed or made the wrong decision when you first did it. At different stages of our business, the things that we need look different. Our branding, our website, our messaging, our audience, our products. It might simply be that you've grown beyond the season it was created for.

Just like Simba's tiny harness, it did exactly what it needed to do at the time, there’s nothing wrong it with at all, it just simply doesn’t fit his body anymore and it's time for the next size up. Look back to celebrate your growth, and then step into your next season with a fresh pair of eyes.

So whether you're launching something new, making changes behind the scenes, finding your confidence, or quietly building something meaningful, I hope you'll take a moment this week to recognise your own growth.

Because helping good things grow isn't just one of my favourite parts of my job. It's something I think is always worth celebrating. 🎉
